Bishop Ireton Catholic High School Junior

Queen of Apostles Parish

Jacob is a 17 year-old Junior at Bishop Ireton High School.  As a young man he personifies all the guiding principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.  Jacob's academic and athletic excellence are acts of Unity and Fraternity, his community work with local community-wide charitable food bank, his Catholic parish, and the nearby child care facility operated by religious sisters accentuate his Charity and his desire to consider the steps to becoming a priest, and his overall attitude of being a proud American exemplify his Patriotism and love for Faith.

Jacob is a stellar academic performer at a very academically competitive high school.  His high school boasts that 100% of the graduating students attend college.  He is an Honor Roll student and has been for all three years to date.  He currently ranks in the top 10 of his class of 200 students.  He has a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.26, and takes all Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

Jacob Manley is a young man with very high character.  He was asked by the Chaplain of Bishop Ireton to attend the Rev. Brian Bashista seminars for young men who might have a calling for the priesthood and want to discover more about this vocation's path.  He is an altar server at his home parish.  He is a leader of the parish Youth Group.

He volunteers at the community Inter-denominational charitable food bank which also helps the poor with furniture and household furnishings.  He contributes to this organization with help on their food drives and teaching young children about the program.  He assists other students with academic challenges, with counseling and tutoring.  He works at the local Child Care Center operated by religious sisters by chores including cleaning the spaces of the facility.

Jacob is a very humble young man who is very unassuming and never seeks attention for himself, but rather does everything possible to support others and bring positive attention to them.

He is an extraordinary young man in that he also excels at several varsity sports.  As a Junior he was the captain of his varsity football team while playing offensive tackle.  His leadership skills are outstanding.  He is also a varsity wrestler and considered as one of the best wrestlers on his team.  He is on the track team where he excels at the hammer throw, although he had to teach himself and another teammate how to throw the hammer because the track coach knows little about this field event.  Again he does all of these sports while maintaining a 4.26 CGPA!

Jacob Patrick Manley is a member of his School's Model United Nations Club and he, along with other classmates, were recognized for being the best delegation during a competition among other High Schools.  He has been on the Bishop Ireton Honor Roll all three years (9-11th grades), and received a special school award for being in the top 10 of his class of 200.  He was awarded a full academic scholarship to attend his private Catholic high school ($12, 000 per year).

He is involved with his family in that he participates with his dad at the community food drives and with his grandmother teaching the children at the church.

Jacob Patrick Manley is truly an outstanding young man.
