Daniel L. Quaid Jr.

DANIEL L. QUAID JR. Passed away peacefully at home in Springfield, VA on November 26, 2007 after a brief illness. Mr. Quaid was born in Washington, D.C. on April 3, 1931 to the late Daniel L. Quaid Sr. and Esther Dakin Quaid. He is survived by his loving wife Erika and daughter Evelyn Reiman (Alan) of Cary, N.C. Sisters Mary Frances of Washington, D.C. and Anne Marie Mood (Marvin) of Gaithersburg, MD. brother and sister in law Emil and Inge Ludaescher of Heidelberg, Germany, a nephew Paul A. Thomas of Tucson, AZ and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald D. Quaid and Philip A. Thomas.

Mr. Quaid was a proud graduate of Gonzaga High School and graduated from Southeastern University. He served in the U.S. Army and, while stationed in Heidelberg, met his wife of 53 years Erika. A Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Quaid retired from the Department of State in 1986 after 35 years of service. He received the Department's Superior Honor Award for outstanding achievement in connection with establishment of the Comptroller's Office. During the Vietnam conflict he served as the Administrative Officer of The Vietnam Training Center. While at the State Department he completed the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Upon his retirement he received the John Jacob Rogers Award for Distinguished Service.

Mr. Quaid was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Parish in Springfield and belonged to the Knights of Columbus including service as Faithful Master of the 4th Degree. He was honored to have been greeted personally by Pope John Paul II during the pope's historic visit to Washington in 1979. He also belonged to the American Legion & the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A memorial mass and celebration of his life will be held at noon on Friday November 30, 2007 at St. Bernadette's Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA. Memorial donations may be made to Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Boulevard, Suite 501, Falls Church, VA. 22042.
