Obituary
Ernest Peter Giordano, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2009
at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myer, Florida.
Ernie, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida, and Burke, Virginia, was born
in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on July 30, 1932, to the late Ernest J. Giordano and
Livia “Lena” Romano Giordano. Ernie
served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955, then moved to Northern Virginia in 1958
to start his career with the Metropolitan Police Department, and later
transferred to the White House Police, later named the Executive Protective
Service, and then the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division, until his
retirement in 1978. Ernie continued
to work “20 different jobs in 19 years”, he would proudly announce, while
continuing to care for his family.
Ernie would have celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary on April 19,
2009, with his lifelong bride, the former Irene Julia Albrecht.
Ernie is survived by his wife and his six children: Michael, Rita (and
husband, Joe Roney), Ernest Jr. (and wife, Vicki), Phillip, Kenneth (and wife,
Joy), and Irene (and SO Scott), and nine grandchildren: Michelle, Lisa, Michael,
Kimberley, Kristin, Kevin, Matthew, Anthony, and Erik.
He is also survived by his sister, Marietta (and husband John Wenderoth)
as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
The consummate volunteer, Ernie was always active in clubs and organizations,
including Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, Lions Club, American Legion, Elks
Lodge, Oddfellows, Cop Shop, and several other groups, as well as Queen of
Apostles Catholic Church in Alexandria, St. Mary’s in Fairfax, and St. Andrew’s
Catholic Church in Cape Coral, FL.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, March 26th at
St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Cape Coral, FL.
A memorial will be held in Northern Virginia and Quantico, Virginia at a
later date this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude’s Research
Hospital. Ernie’s wit, humor and
strong personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Send Sympathy or Mass Cards To:
