SAUNDERS, RICHARD G., SR. 73

Dunnellon - Richard G. "Rich" Saunders, age 73 years, of Dunnellon, Florida, died Friday, April 25 in Ocala, FL.  He was born August 2, 1934 in Newport News, Virginia, son of the late Brigadier General LaVerne Saunders, of the United States Army Air Corp and Josephine (Reilly) Saunders.  He moved here in 2005 from Medford, New Jersey.  He was living in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked; being a young age of seven, and making him a Pearl Harbor Survivor.  Rich was a retired United States Army Colonel with the Signal Corp.  He served 2 tours in VietNam and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.  He retired in 1983 after 28 years active duty.  He then served 17 years as a Senior Vice President of Engineering and Customer Service at I.D.C.C. of King of Prussia, PA.  He was a member of M.O.A.A. of Ocala, and an avid sportsman, including fishing, hunting and shooting.  He was a "Dog Lover" and was always accompanied by his dog Ginger.  Rich volunteered at the Food Pantry at St. John The Baptist Church, Dunnellon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a Brother, Maurice M. Saunders in 1954.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris L. Saunders, Grand Park, Rainbow Springs, his daughter Mary Jo Flinn (Steve), Sugarland, TX, 3 sons, Richard G. Saunders, Jr. (Belinda J.), Winslow, NJ, Michael P. Saunders, Sr., Hammonton, NJ, and John T. Saunders, Auburn Hills, MI, 5 Grandchildren, Richard Saunders, III and Jennifer Saunders, both of Winslow, NJ, Michael Paul Saunders, Jr. and Jane Elizabeth Saunders, both of Sicklerville, NJ, and Kelly Flinn, Sugarland, TX.

Viewing will be at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Dunnellon on Sunday (Today) April 27, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Dunnellon, with Reverend Kevin MacGabbham officiating.  Private burial with full military honors will be held later in the week at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  Memorial Contributions may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O.
